Dry Needling in Christchurch

Targeted dry needling treatment to relieve muscle tension, reduce pain and restore movement.

Dry needling is a highly effective treatment used to release tight muscles and reduce persistent pain.

It involves inserting very fine needles into trigger points within the muscle to help relieve tension, improve movement and support recovery.

Dry needling can be provided as a standalone treatment, or included as part of a massage session where appropriate, depending on your needs.

What Can Dry Needling Help With?

Dry needling can help relieve muscle tension, reduce pain and improve movement in a range of conditions, including:

• Persistent muscle tension and tight knots
• Trigger points causing local or referred pain
• Neck and shoulder pain
• Back pain and postural tension
• Sciatica symptoms
• Sports injuries and muscle strain
• Headaches linked to muscle tension
• Restricted movement or joint stiffness
• Ongoing muscle tightness affecting daily activities

How Dry Needling Works

Dry needling involves inserting very fine, sterile needles into specific trigger points within the muscle.

These trigger points are tight bands of muscle that can cause pain, stiffness and restricted movement. By targeting these areas, dry needling helps release tension, improve circulation and support your body’s natural healing response.

The needles are typically inserted for only a short period — usually between 30 seconds and one minute — but the effects can be long-lasting.

After treatment, your body continues to respond and repair. This healing response can continue for up to 72 hours, so it is normal for full relief to develop gradually over the following few days rather than immediately.

Dry needling can be provided as a standalone treatment, or included as part of a massage session depending on your needs.

What Happens During a Visit

When I arrive, we’ll begin with a short conversation about how you’re feeling and what you’d like to get from your session. This allows me to tailor the treatment to your needs on the day.

If dry needling is appropriate, I will explain the process clearly and ensure you’re comfortable before starting. I always work within your comfort level and answer any questions you may have.

I’ll then set up my professional equipment and begin treatment. Depending on your needs, this may include dry needling on specific trigger points, massage techniques, or a combination of both.

You’re always in control throughout the session, and I encourage feedback so we can adjust the treatment as needed.

At the end of the session, I’ll provide helpful aftercare advice to support your recovery and maximise the benefits of treatment.

Who Dry Needling Is Suitable For

Dry needling may be especially suitable for:

• People experiencing persistent muscle tightness or trigger points
• Those with neck, shoulder or back pain
• People recovering from injury or muscle strain
• Clients with restricted movement or joint stiffness
• Those who find deep pressure uncomfortable or difficult to tolerate
• People who do not like prolonged pressure on tender trigger points
• Clients looking for an efficient treatment with lasting results
• Anyone needing focused treatment for specific areas of muscle tension

Choose Your Treatment Duration

Most clients simply choose the length of time that suits their needs. I tailor the treatment within that time using the most appropriate techniques — which may include dry needling, massage or a combination of both.

You can choose from:

• 30 minutes — ideal for focused treatment on one specific area or trigger point
• 60 minutes — suitable for treating one or two areas or combining massage and dry needling
• 90 minutes — extended time for more complex or multiple areas requiring deeper or ongoing treatment
